The excellent people at
Gamasutrareceived some great information from NPD Group -- the top five consoletitles of 2009 by platform. The numbers do not include limited editionor collector's edition versions of the games. Let's take a look at thebest-selling titles of 2009, followed by some commentary.

Sony's top three was pretty predictable, but slots four and five were a bit surprising. In a very short amount of time, THQ's
UFC: Undisputedhas put the market in a kimura arm lock. I'm pretty surprised thatSony's baseball game did so well -- it's a good game, but I didn'tthink baseball titles were that popular. As a baseball fan, this makesme happy. What make me sad is that
inFamousdidn't crack the list. I'm a big fan of Sucker Punch and was hoping itslatest game would sell like crazy. Hopefully the second half of 2009will be kind to
inFamous.
For the top five Wii and Xbox 360 games of 2009, hit the break (please)!

Nintendo's list was topped by first-party games -- shocking, I know.
EA Sports Active taking the fourth slot isn't a shocker either, but I wasn't expecting
LEGO Star Warsto make the list. It's interesting that the Wii's list is the only onethat has games from 2007 on it. Is it because of its large casual basethat doesn't necessarily care about the latest? Or is it just a lack ofquality content? I'd wager that it's more of the former and a bit ofthe latter.

Microsoft's list was mostly predictable too.
UFC's beat the crap out of the competition. I'm incredibly happy that
Halo Warsmade the cut. Ensemble Studios' swan song is a great game that's asterling example of how real-time strategy can work on a console. I'mstill bitter that Microsoft idiotically shut down this greatdevelopment house, but I'm pleased that it went out with a bang.
What do you think of the top five of 2009? Anything surprise you? Leave a comment and let me know (please)!
