In an article published on Novem-ber 19, 1992 in the Nihon KeizaiShinbun, a leading Japanese busi-ness newspaper, Sony of Japan hasdecided to indefinitely postponelaunching its own all-in-one video game system/CD-ROM console.
This system, previously known asthe Play Station, was to be com-pletely compatible with the 32-Bit Super NES CD-ROM peripheral that Nintendo is working on. The two companies, just last month, had agreed to cooperatively market this Play Station jointly but, disagree-ment between Sony and Nintendo asto what direction the new system was to take led to the break-up.Sony envisioned their Play Station would be a whole new game con-sole with the very latest in chip andCD technology built in. Nintendo, on the other hand, only wanted its CD-ROM peripheral to be an extension of its Super Nintendo game system.
